We all know about the streaks of Brett Favre and Cal Ripken Jr. These men inhibited incredible strength and tough mindedness on their quest to to not miss a day of work. I also possessed these qualities last night as I battled through a bout of the chills followed with an intense fever. You see, I have been #blessed with an immune system that would knock your goddamn socks off! I haven't been sick since March of 2011 and that was from an all time case of the Irish flu. I had a wonderful time up at a lake in Minnesota last week visiting my awesome family from North Dakota and Minnesota. I was exposed to my infant cousins illnesses (who are great, and I have no ill will towards!) Heck, I even held a baby for the first time in my life and as awkward as it looked, I enjoyed it! Anyway, they were also battling fevers for parts of the trip. It all came unraveled last night, as the fevers and chills wait for NO MAN.
2:38 AM: I am officially awoken to body aches and a very strong fever that would render even the best Roman gladiators from stepping back into their respective arenas. I feel defeated and in complete shambles.
2:45 AM: I shed my blankies and gingerly walked to the bathroom to take a pee. I nearly fell over from the intense headache that hit me like a ton of bricks. I am woozy but not yet defeated,
2:49 AM: I rolled back into bed and hugged tight to the right side of the bed, nearest the fan I run every night because I do not believe in AC running in the dead of night. For Pete sake, I am just trying to catch some cold air that will bring my temperature back down to normal. I am hotter than a firecracker on the Fourth of July. I now know what Jason Pierre Paul must have felt like when he got his fingers blasted off.
2:59 AM: I desperately search my medicine cabinet for for relieve, unfortunately I only have one Nyquill gel packet left. I take the packet and toss and turn until 3:18 AM rolls around.
3:18 AM I have fallen back to sleep in hopes of shedding this dastardly thing. After all, I have a two year anniversary to celebrate with my gal friend today, I'll be damned if this keep me from it!
7:06 AM: Like a Phoenix, I rise from the ashes. I refuse to call in sick for work because of my foolish pride. If I were a battery I would be running at 34 percent, but the show must go on!
I hope this inspires the youth to battle through adversity and navigate the seas of life to the best of your ability. Don't let your body win, your mind is much more advanced and will carry you to the finish line!
In closing, I am not ashamed to admit I was taken down for a mere moment by my infant cousins illnesses. In fact, they inspired me to keep pushing on. I am a warrior and won't go down without a fight!
